Introduction and Personal Statement

I want to continue what I have been doing all my life: travelling and listening to various stories from people of differing backgrounds to mine. These stories are rich in culture and history. It teaches the consequences of our actions no matter how small or insignificant it may seem.

During my studies, I have actively pursed opportunities that allowed to sit down and simply listen without having to do much. This is especially notable in all of the interview work I have done in my Journalism courses. Through this, I honed my skills in interviewing, following up, editing.

The values of TRU have been present throughout my work. Most notably, from local to global. Being an international student myself, much of my work has focused on the international student community at TRU or ongoing local events impacted by cross border issues.

Beyond my academics, I have been active in work with companies mainly in project managing. While this may seem unrelated to my field of study, being a journalist has a lot of common areas with project managers. You’re are constantly planning, figuring out solutions to emerging problems, thinking about how this impacts the final outcome, and calculating feasibility for whatever you are doing or writing about.

I am excited to take this opportunity to build upon what I have done, and combine it with different interests and passions that other have, to share stories that world is not yet prepared for.
